Why ASMR Nature Sound Videos Are a Great Way to Relax and Unwind: My Journey in Creating and Monetizing Coastal Calm Ambience
In our busy, always-connected lives, it can seem like a constant challenge to find ways to relax and take a break. Life throws a lot at us—work stress, social media, constant news updates, and the everyday hustle and bustle. There's this one relaxation method that's really taken off in popularity lately: ASMR, or Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response. In the ambient sounds world, nature sounds like ocean waves, rustling leaves, and gentle rain really stand out as some of the most soothing content.
I've been a commercial photographer, podcaster, and videographer for years, and I love capturing the world through my lens in unique ways. Recently, I decided to dive into something new, mixing my work skills with my love for nature: ASMR nature sound videos.
In this post, I want to chat about why these videos are such a great way to unwind, share how I got into making them for other creators, and talk about my decision to start my own ASMR channel. Just a heads up: I think it has amazing potential for making money through advertising and being profitable in the long run.
Before we jump into my journey, let’s chat about what makes nature sounds so relaxing to begin with.
Picture this: you’ve just come home after a long, stressful day. You feel exhausted, yet your thoughts are all over the place. Rather than lying awake in bed, you decide to watch a video of gentle waves rolling onto the beach. In just a few seconds, you find yourself somewhere else. The calming sound of the ocean wraps around you, quieting your mind and allowing your body to relax. Out of nowhere, you feel relaxed, your breathing eases, and before you know it, you’re off to dreamland.
This experience really taps into something deeply instinctual. People have always felt a strong bond with nature. Back in the day, before we had cities, cars, and all this tech, the sounds of the wind, water, and wildlife were what filled our lives. These sounds are part of who we are—they bring a sense of safety, calm, and peace. When we listen to them, our bodies just start to unwind on their own.
There's research that backs this up as well. Hey, did you know that listening to nature sounds can actually help reduce stress, lower your blood pressure, and even boost your brainpower? Pretty interesting, right? It makes total sense that ASMR nature sound videos have become so popular—they provide a nice break from all the digital noise and the never-ending demands of everyday life.
But there's something special about ASMR that goes beyond just listening to these sounds. It's all about the feelings these sounds give us. That's when the "tingles" show up. ASMR videos, particularly the ones with great audio quality, can really create a relaxing feeling that begins in your head and often travels down your spine. For a lot of people, this is the perfect way to find deep calm and let go of stress.
I’ve spent years working in the creative industry. I've spent quite a bit of time snapping photos of food, drinks, and various products for different businesses. A few years back, I began to see how popular ASMR content was becoming, especially when it came to nature sounds.
I've had quite a few creators get in touch, wondering if I could assist them in capturing some top-notch audio and visuals of nature. With my experience and access to some really great gear, I thought it would be a good idea to dive into these projects. It worked out great for everyone involved. I was out enjoying the fresh air, doing what I love, and getting paid to create content that helps others grow their channels.
I’d go to the coast, stand in the sand with my microphones and cameras, and just start recording. There were times when I’d spend hours just waiting for that perfect sound—the gentle wave rolling in or the rhythmic crash of the tide. Sometimes, I’d stumble upon a secret forest trail and settle down beneath the trees, listening to the wind rustling through the leaves or the gentle sound of rain falling.
It turned into something beyond just work—it felt almost like a form of meditation for me as well. I noticed that while I was helping these ASMR creators thrive, I was also gaining something from the whole experience. Spending time in nature and trying to capture its natural beauty really felt like a way to unwind.
Here we are today. After all those years of making nature sounds for everyone else, it hit me: why not create them for myself? I had all the right gear, the know-how, and a real passion for nature. I decided it was time to start my own ASMR channel, Coastal Calm Ambience.
Initially, it was simply a way to express my creativity. I really enjoy the coast, especially Monterey, CA. I often head there to capture the sounds of the ocean. The waves, the birds, and the natural rhythm of the ocean have this calming vibe that just keeps pulling me back in.
But once I began uploading my videos, it felt like something clicked. Folks were chiming in. As I watched the views come in slowly, it hit me that this could be more than just something I loved doing—it might actually have some real potential to make money.
Now, here’s the exciting part—why I believe Coastal Calm Ambience is going to be a very profitable venture.
High Viewer Retention: One of the unique things about ASMR nature sound videos is how long people watch them. These aren’t two-minute viral clips; they’re often hours long. Viewers play them to fall asleep, to meditate, or to focus while working or studying. This means longer watch times, which is gold when it comes to YouTube’s algorithm and ad revenue. The longer someone watches your video, the more ads they’re likely to encounter, and that translates into higher revenue for creators.
Audience Demographics: People who enjoy ASMR tend to be highly engaged and loyal viewers. Many use these videos daily to manage stress, anxiety, or sleep issues. This consistency creates an incredibly valuable audience for advertisers—people who come back again and again are more likely to see and respond to ads.
Low Production Costs: Unlike other types of content that require constant filming, scripting, and editing, ASMR nature sound videos are relatively low-maintenance. Once I’ve captured a high-quality ocean sound or forest scene, that content can be used in multiple ways across different platforms. This means I can produce high volumes of content with minimal ongoing costs, which increases profitability.
Potential for Sponsorships: With Coastal Calm Ambience, I’m looking to partner with brands that align with the peaceful, nature-centric vibe of my content. Think eco-friendly companies, hotels on the beach, or meditation app developers. These kinds of partnerships can be highly lucrative, especially if they’re integrated into the content itself. For example, imagine doing a 6- to 10-hour ASMR live stream from a beachfront hotel and subtly promoting the location as part of the experience. Not only does it add value to the video, but it’s also a seamless way to include sponsored content without disrupting the viewer’s relaxation.
Diverse Monetization Opportunities: Aside from traditional ads and sponsorships, I’m also exploring other ways to monetize Coastal Calm Ambience. I’ve been selling ocean and nature sound videos to other creators, and this is something I plan to continue. There’s a huge demand for high-quality, royalty-free ASMR content, and as someone who’s been producing this for years, I know there’s plenty of room to grow in this space.
What really gets me excited about Coastal Calm Ambience is the chance to create a lasting, sustainable brand. I’m not just starting a YouTube channel—I’m building a space where folks can chill, take a breather, and get away from the everyday hustle and bustle.
I’ve started a podcast too, sharing the sounds of the coast with listeners in a way that's super easy to enjoy. This really opens up even more chances for growth since podcasting is such a hot industry right now, with a dedicated audience and great advertising potential.
Guess what the best part is? It looks like ASMR nature sound videos are here to stay for a while. People are always looking for ways to unwind, and the sounds of nature never go out of style. These videos have something for everyone, whether you're looking to sleep, relax, or focus.
If you’re a fan of ASMR or just curious about it, I really think you should give it a shot—especially the nature sounds. They’re pretty amazing! It's one of the easiest and most effective ways to unwind, and it could easily fit into your daily routine.
I'm really excited to be on this journey with Coastal Calm Ambience! I’ve had such an amazing time so far, and I can’t wait to see where it leads me next! Given how popular ASMR has become, along with the trend towards longer content and the chance for viewers to stick around, I think this channel could really take off.
I'm really glad you could join me on this adventure! I hope you enjoy these nature sounds and find as much peace and relaxation in them as I do.
